the evolution of a rug hooker

May 12, 2011 by Birdbrain 4 Comments

Peruvian Images is finished.  My very first rug  Euclid, is of similar design.  Both are from House of Price.  Peruvian Images stayed in the cupboard for several years before I decided to start it last year.  It is interesting to see the evolution.  Euclid was hooked in 2006 on burlap, using #4 cut wool purchased at my first Annual in Lindsay in 2005.  Peruvian Images is hooked on linen, with #5 cut and lots of textures, spot dyes and marblized wool, mostly of my own dyeing.  Euclid is finer, more careful, more reserved. Peruvian Images is thicker and a bit riotous.  Am I taking more risks these days?  Maybe.

I can’t believe that Euclid was your first rug. What an undertaking. But you are so right that your artistic voice is much more apparent in Peruvian. It makes me wonder what is in the room where it is going? They are both beautiful in their separate ways – kind of like those siblings from completely opposite ends of the gene pool. LOL

I’m not sure which room the rug will go in–but it is not as bright as the photo makes it look. I enhanced the photo and probably shouldn’t have!
I love your analogy of the siblings! Thanks for your comments to my blog. It is very heartening to think someone out there is reading it.

I love the rugs! Great to see them in their completed state. The top rug is So Fun! Great colour choices for each.
