sketching in Holguin and environs

On Saturday we climbed into the 53 Chevrolet taxi again and headed for Holguin. On the way we stopped in Santa Lucia, a small town and the former site of Sanchez Sugar Mill. The mill has been out of production for the last fifteen years, but the promenade with its ornate fence and benches still overlooks the mill buildings. As we walked along I was taken by the pastel buildings and by this one in particular, with its large B. I would love to know the story.

In Holguin I sat in two leafy squares or parques and sketched the bordering buildings. And before we left we climbed the Loma de la Cruz for a panoramic view of Cuba’s fourth largest city.sk holguin 1

Thank you both. Cuba is an enchanting place with such history and an even more challenging present.

In two weeks I am leaving for Kenya and Amsterdam again. Whew…then I am ready to stay put for a while. But I hope to do lots of sketching.

I hope you both will continue to stay in touch.
